The San Luis Obispo Soccer Club U-15 Storm Girls team was crowned champions of the 2014 Cal South State Cup – President’s Division held in San Bernardino, CA. The team traveled the first two weekends in April to Palm Desert and Orange County prior to traveling to San Bernardino on the last weekend in April to play the Final Four. In the semi-finals game on Saturday early morning, the Storm U-15 Girls defeated Celtic FC – Harps 3-0 with goals from Minetti (assist by Hotaling), Ragain (assist by O’Hare) and Boller (assist by O’Hare).
In the Championship Game on Sunday, April 27th, the U-15 Storm team won 1-0 against Santa Monica United to take the trophy home. After an evenly matched and hard fought game against a well-coached Santa Monica United team, the Storm girls showed character and personality and with 6 minutes remaining in the game, center-forward Brooke Minetti scored the winning goal with a chip shot that sailed over the keeper.
With a total of 8 games in the State Cup tournament, the U-15 Storm team had an impressive undefeated record of 7 wins and 1 tie, with 13 goals scored and only 2 goals conceded. The strong defensive performance was given a lot of credit to the goalkeeper Gabriela Flores and also the two center-defenders, Rylie Johnson and Theanna Longfellow who were chosen by the staff as the two State Cup tournament MVP’s.
SLO Storm G98 will now represent the club and the Cal South organization as they travel to Morgan Hill (California), to compete in the Far West Regionals against the state champions from Cal North, Nevada, and Alaska in the opening rounds. The competition will be held on June 10-15.
